I’ve been in the industry nearly 40 years and seen every change you can imagine. Mostly those changes did cause some disruption to our business. However, not one of them has caused the eruption created by FASEA and the continual compliance changes.

Following all these years of service, like many other financial advisers, I was finding full advice a rather dull and unpleasant method of engaging clients especially when we were forced to engage the client through the full process when I felt there had to be a better way of doing things.

Clients generally understand insurance better than people may imagine. They tend to take a greater interest and a more hands on approach to their insurance today. Giving general advice is a simpler process and clients appreciate that.

Before launching into general advice, the altering government legislations and education requirements became very onerous and impacted my face time with client engagement. I was not ready to exit the industry then as I had quite a few more years left in me yet.

General advice has freed up time for me to do what I really enjoy, client interaction.  It’s a much more streamlined process of engaging a client, educating them and implementing their required insurance within a short period that you couldn’t do under full advice and it’s the same type of cover I was providing before — nothing’s changed.
